The easiest way to be able to be keep track of where horses are up to with anything, is to try and keep a well organised recording system. Whether this be a colour coded Master Diary, or separate records with an entry for each horse, it really can make a difference to have any necessary information about a particular horse at your fingertips. Work out a system that you know will be effective for you and the horses in your care.

Record Examples:

Worming Program (horse’s name, date, type of wormer and administration mode)

Vaccination Program (horse’s name, date, type, dose, administration mode)

Hoof Program (horse’s name, date, type, date for next visit)

Medications (horse’s name, date, time administration mode)

Injury, Lameness or Abnormalities

New Horse Arrivals (Origin and Horse Movement/Travel Route)

Paddock Rotations

Events

Veterinary Procedures Performed

Type of and Origin of Feed

Reasons for Spelling

Insurance/Owner Details of Agisting Horses

There is enough to do when caring for horses without having to guess details, or rummage through piles of documents to find each piece of information. By taking the time to keep records, much more effective and accurate horse management is possible.
