EQUESTRIAN QUICK TEN
1) What made you fall in love with horses?
I’d have to say I love their sense of emotion and willingness to learn the most. I love that every horse is different but they all require time to build a connection and earn their trust, it’s a difficult but rewarding challenge!
2) How long have you been riding for?
I’ve been riding since I was 7, so 15 years.
3) Have you done any Tertiary Education in horses?
I went to Marcus Oldham college in 2014 to do a Diploma of Equine Business Management.
4) Have you broken any horses in yourself?
During my time at college we learnt to break in a large group of thoroughbreds, we worked with them everyday for 2 months it was alot of fun!
5) What are your greatest Equine Achievements?
Hmm thinking about this there have been plenty of ribbons and rugs won throughout the years in terms of achievements. However there is nothing more rewarding then cantering through the finish flags on cross country or jumping the last fence in the jump off of a showjumping round knowing that you worked your butt off to nail it the whole way around.
6) What has been your deepest Equine low?
There certainly has been a few! Many hospital trips when the only thought going through your brain is “why on earth did I do that” and “when can I get back on”. The worst though would have to be when your horse sustains an injury, you spend so much of your time keeping them mentally and physically fit, icing their legs and physio treatments and it’s heartbreaking when you see them in pain.
7) What jobs have you been able to work with horses so far?
I did a few years of grooming and riding horses for performance stables. I’m now currently working at Saddleworld and teaching a few days a week.
8) What are your current Equine ambitions?
I’m currently working up to Adelaide 3 Day event to ride in the 2* next month which has been a big goal of mine for the last couple of years.
9) What is your favourite movie?
This is a tough one! I’m a big fan of adventure movies such as Annihilation, The Lost City of Z, The Lone Ranger and Pirates of the Caribbean.
10) Favourite accessory?
I have this beautiful Tiffany bracelet my mum got me for my 21st birthday and I never take it off!.
Living Equine thanks Jane very much for taking the time to be profiled, and wish her all the best with her future equine endeavours!
