To achieve any grand task by ones’ self is quite remarkable. I launched Living Equine as a one woman band. Sure I have had some paid help, collaborators and support, but the majority of business activities are carried out by yours truly. I believe this would classify me as a solopreneur. A solopreneur (if you haven’t heard), is someone who runs their business alone, and does not necessarily want to grow their business to be sold. Entrepreneurs may start alone, but then generally become part of a team, and may move on and have several businesses which they could potentially sell.

Some of you may recognise that the way that Living Equine is conducted is quite entrepreneur- like, in the way that I have formed and continue to form many relationships with clients, equestrians and collaborators to grow my business’s community. This is true, but for the most part I intend to always own and run Living Equine as my own.

Being either a solopreneur, or an entrepreneur comes with pros and cons just like anything else. I know that some of you are one of these yourself, and for that I tip my hat to you because it is no easy feat. There is of course pros such as flexibility, being self accountable, and being the sole one to gain from the business (not just monetary). But there is of course the undeniable cons of being the one responsible for everything, having to be patient for business growth, and having to be self accountable (motivate and discipline yourself).

I am nearly 2.5 years down the track, and personally I am quite proud of the little business that could and can, I have created. That’s all that really matters; you are happy with where your business is at (taking everything into consideration). If not, strategise and make it something you can be proud of.

I think there are a lot of reasons these days to become your own boss, and I feel that if someone wants to do something enough, and they are willing to put the work in to make it viable; then why not!?
