Equestrian, as covered in Living Equine’s first Horse History Series Blog, was originally referring to the three disciplines of Dressage, Show Jumping and Eventing. However nowadays the sport, or even hobby of Equestrian has broadened to refer to include any discipline. I would even go as far to say that nearly anyone who has Equines as part of their life, no matter how big or small that may be, are Equestrians.
It is wonderful to think that a term used for a rather exclusive group of people, has evolved to be inclusive of anyone who has Equines in their lives. Obviously there are the professional athletes that have careers in this Industry, and there are breeders and trainers who rightfully deserve the title. However if we look at Equestrian as the phenomena that it is, it is easy to include the people who enjoy it as a hobby or companionship too.
