I am sure some of you have already seen the flies beginning to irritate your Equine Companions, and I suppose some of you have even experienced their presence yourselves. As responsible owners/carers there are ways that we can minimise the amount that flies can annoy our beloveds.
- Fly Veils being placed on is probably the most obvious way to prevent not only flies, but bugs being able to irritate eyes and faces. A lot of Fly Veils also act as Sunglasses with UV Protection.
- Fly Spray can be sprayed across the body, down the legs, and sprayed onto hands and wiped across the face to help to repel flies and bugs. This can be done daily during Fly Season.
- Cotton or Mesh Rugs can be worn to help prevent flies that bite being able to access skin to munch on. Some brands of rugs are even infused with Insect Repellent in their fibres.
- Good hygiene in the areas of keeping. Manure being disposed of regularly, and manure buckets being rinsed out after use.
- Fly Traps often in the form of jars with something sticky in the bottom that appeals to the flies sense of smell, and lures them inside. These can get quite smelly if not emptied regularly.
By using all, or some of these ways to help reduce irritation, much happier and healthier Equines result during Fly Season.
