Equestrian Profile – Tim Moore ©

The next addition to Living Equine’s Equestrian Profiles, is farrier and horseman, Tim Moore.

EQUESTRIAN QUICK TEN
1) What made you fall in love with horses?
I remember back when I left school when I got my first job at a racing stable at Rosehill. Within the first couple of days of me working with them I was hooked. They gave me a feeling that you could only get when your with your best mate.

2) How long have you been riding for?
I have only ridden a handful of times since I’ve been involved with horses, just trotting around a paddock. I feel more at home under them than on top of them.

3) Have you done any Tertiary Education in horses?
As a mandatory requirement to work at a racing stable I had to complete Certificate III in Advanced Stablehand.
I am also a qualified farrier in which I had to complete a 4 year apprenticeship and Certificate III in Farriery at TAFE.

4) Have you broken any horses in yourself?
A friend of mine and I broke in a Thoroughbred we bought from New Zealand, as I am not a rider I did a lot of the ground work, Long reining and lunging etc.

5) What are your greatest Equine Achievements?
Completing my apprenticeship in Farriering would be my highest achievement so far.

6) What has been your deepest Equine low?
One of my favourite horses I looked after when I worked at Rosehill was sold to Hong Kong. If that wasn’t heartbreaking enough he broke down while competing and had to be euthanised.

7) What jobs have you been able to work with horses so far?
I worked as a Stable Hand at Rosehill Racecourse and am a qualified farrier working and servicing the Southern Highlands region and surrounding areas.

8) What are your current Equine ambitions?
Now that I am established in the Southern highlands, I look to further my education by completing my Diploma in Farriery. Even still you never stop learning while on the job.

9) What is your favourite movie?
Pharlap would have to be my favourite movie.

10) Favourite accessory?
As I am on the road a bit and working 7 days a week, farrier’s pride themselves in having good quality gear. A pair of G.E cutters is a must have.

Living Equine thanks Tim very much for taking the time to be profiled, and wish him all the best with his future equine endeavours!
