Five Things For Stable Workouts ©

If you don’t feel as if living a busy equine lifestyle is enough to keep you fit, and you are in need of ways to build your fitness without the gym, here are five pieces of equipment that can be found around the stable/ in a horse owner’s home, that can be utilised for effective workouts.

Jump Poles

The poles normally used to create courses for your horses to jump, can also used to make obstacle courses for yourself to complete in a set time. They of course can also be used as fairly heavy weights, and perhaps even a 2 person lift activity for ones made of hardwood.

Hay Bales

Another great obstacle course addition, can also be used as weights, or as a substitute for a bench for step ups. Time trials could also be done stacking them from one set point to another in the quickest time possible.

Tyres

Apart from the obvious function of being able to tyre flip these bad boys, tyres can create great agility obstacle courses. Small tyres could also be used instead of hay bales in the above time trial stacking idea.

Buckets

Two half filled 10L buckets, could be lifted together and walked between set points with the infamous half squat stance for a good quad and core workout. Repeating this several times, and attempting to go slowly and not spill any water, for ultimate quad and core burn.

Shampoo Bottles

5L shampoo bottles, or like horse care products can be used as amazing dumbells. Whether it be typical bicep work, or simply an addition to another exercise, these are a smart example of using what you have to do as you wish.

These are only five pieces of equipment that can be used with a work out function in mind, there are plenty more that can become multifunctional as well. There is also no stopping several or all of these being used all together to create the greatest horsey workout going! The biggest obstacle course, or the best set possible! Just remember to always stretch before starting, lift things responsibly, know your limits, and just like our horses, cool down afterwards.
