I am sure that some of you already use coconut oil to cook with, on your skin and in your hair, but how many of you use it when it comes to horse care?
Manes and Tails benefit greatly from coconut oil nourishment; creates beautiful shine and assists in detangling those pesky knots. If you have a horse with Insect Bites, coconut oil can help to soothe the itchiness, and create a seal to protect open bites. Wounds can be cared for with generous application, because the oil has anti bacterial and anti fungal properties that will help to protect against infection. Applying to freshly washed and dried pasterns that have Mud Fever, will put the anti microbial properties to work in treating this and preventing further infection. Dry cracked hooves will also benefit from this cheap and natural alternative for a hoof conditioner.
Some horses enjoy having the odd lick, because they enjoy the smell and taste. It is recommended that Virgin Coconut Oil is sourced, and it can be purchased in jars or in large tubs in its solid form. The solid oil can be emulsified in hand to make it into a liquid for application. Truly an amazing and affordable product to have handy; so many uses and keeps it au naturale!
